“Voice of Reason” - curated by Michelle Hromin

Voice of Reason is a portrait concert featuring four multi-disciplinary composers who are examples of artists working to push against the resistance and preconceived stigmas within Western music. Ranging from the classical, contemporary, and experimental sound worlds, this concert acts as a "voice of reason" for the listener, asking them to deconstruct their previous ideas of music, and put them back together again.

Featuring works by Julia Wolfe, Michelle Hromin, inti figgis-vizueta, and Mary Kouyoumdjian.

A note from our Artistic Director:

I can’t tell you what a privilege it is to get to work with each member of standard issue to explore our voices as improvisers, curators, and performers in addition to our friendship. As a group, we’re passionate about making contemporary and experimental music more accessible - what does that actually mean? We’re really interested in creating a more relaxed, inviting performance environment that doesn’t feel like there’s a block between performer and audience. We like having conversations about the music we’ve programmed, why we like it, and inspiring people to try some of this weird shit out themselves. Music is for all of us; this group is here to show you that.
